Trump attends LIV Golf Virginia after urging players' PGA return
President Donald Trump attended the LIV Golf Virginia tournament at his Trump National Golf Club Washington, D.C., in Sterling, Virginia, on May 9, 2026. He watched from a presidential suite where his son Eric was seated alongside a Public Investment Fund representative, with whom Trump shook hands. The appearance marks Trump's second golf event in two weeks, both at his own courses.
A week earlier, Trump attended the final round of the PGA Tour's Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral Miami in South Florida on May 3, 2026, won by Cameron Young. Last Thursday in the Oval Office, Trump called for LIV golfers to rejoin the PGA Tour, stating, "I do believe that all of the golfers should be playing against each other."
He added, "I want to see Rory [McIlroy] playing Bryson DeChambeau. I want to see big Jon Rahm playing Scottie, who is so great. Scottie Scheffler is great." Trump has hosted LIV events at his courses before; this year features another at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey in August.
Trump also attended the first day of last year's Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York. The LIV Golf league faces uncertainty after announcing Saudi funding via the Public Investment Fund will end following this season.
